This thesis provides a theoretical and methodical framework for employing virtual acoustics systems for audio playback in hearing research as well as auditory quality evaluation of virtual acoustics systems using methods of Psychoacoustics. The framework is verified by the example of binaural synthesis, which is derived system theoretically and evaluated by physical and psychoacoustical measurements. The results provide an explanation of the case of the missing 6dB and suggest a schematic working model of the buildup of hearing sensations with regard to auditory localization and loudness.
