In this work, the influence of different road surfaces and materials on radar scattering is analyzed for the automotive 77 GHz band. It comprises all roads commonly found on German highways and distinguishes in specular and diffuse scattering behavior. For the investigation, different measurement methods are proposed resulting in mathematical descriptions of the reflection. This characterization includes the relative permittivity and roughness, as well as probability density functions of the reflectance of the surfaces.
