Title:
Prosthetics in Insects with special Consideration of the Raphidioptera (Insecta, Neuropterida)
Abstract:
Prothetely, the expression of imaginal or pupal characters in larval
stages, is a modification in the development of holometabolous insects.
In Raphidioptera (Neuropterida) this modification can be induced by a
shortened chilling period in the winter prior to pupation (ASPOCK &
al., 1974).
In this study the eye of a prothetelic larva of Phaeostigma notata
(FABiuclus, 1781) was examined and compared to the eyes of a normally
developed larva and the eyes of an adult using light microscopy, REM and
histological sections.
