Within the current research work 20 sample trees (mean diameter at breast height 15 cm) infested by the Large Poplar Longhorn Beetle (Saperda carcharias) have been felled and analyzed. The lowest stem-parts and the crown-attachment-areas exhibited the most intense infestation. In total 88 larval galleries (median length: 199 mm; mean length: 195 mm) have been found. The number of entry-/ exit-areas varied from one to four per larval gallery. It has been remarkable that the larvae often mine deeply in the sapwood. A quarter of all galleries have been branched. No distinct pupal chamber with more than one entrance has been noticed, but all galleries contained at least one dead end, which sometimes possessed an irregular enlargement. Characteristic exit holes have been rare and often found horizontally above entry areas.     «
