Transborder-farming is a virtual way of land consolidation. A transborder-field is a part of meadow surrounded by natural borders or farm roads. The former several single plots, cultivated by several farmers, are now farmed as one big plot across the property borders. This requires cooperation of the participating farmers. Transborder-farming means an enlargement of cultivation units and thus declining operating time and costs. Higher gross margins caused by lower production costs, higher market power and maybe higher yields improve the competitiveness of the participating farmers.
To realise a property based allocation of all yields and efforts during cultivation technical equipment for data acquisition during fieldwork based on GPS and LBS is required. Automated data acquisition completed with an almost automated data evaluation via an evaluation program for the PC results in a data management system which is especially suited to manage transborder farming without having a notable amount of extra time effort for office work. Such a system has been developed during the last years within two research projects at the Technical University of Munich and has been tested since two years in a practical experiment in Zeiltzheim in lower Franconia (Bavaria, Germany).
