Abstract:
Geothermal energy can play an important role in decarbonizing the heating sector, however, a limiting factor is that heat demand in urban areas does not usually coincide spatially with geological settings favorable to the extraction of geothermal energy. Long-distance heat transport could enable the direct use of geothermal resources even in areas with low or no geothermal potential. This paper proposes the cost-optimal coordinated deployment of geothermal heating plants together with heat t...     »
