Stimulating use of open communication standards in agriculture (DIN 9684 und ISO 11783) with capable Open Source Program Library as possible reference implementation

The standardised protocol DIN 9684 (LBS) is designed for a compatible open communication of tractors and implements with a virtual terminal and a task controller. The lack of a common reference implementation and an insufficient evolution of the protocol leads to incompatible dialects which uses only a small part of LBS. Therefore the costs development and management of different versions for each dialect are to high for a quick realisation of LBS products. An Open Source reference implementation of the standards DIN 9684 and ISO 11783 could stimulate their compatible and capable use, if enough researchers and companies supports the project (e.g. development time and money). The LBS-Lib is published as part of a research project as an initial point of such a project.      «
