TUM Speakers Series: Federal minister Dr. Gerd Müller in the „aCar“
Image explanation:
Scientists from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) are showing Dr. Gerd Müller, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, (1st from left) the prototypes of the electric car "aCar" developed at TUM; 17.2.1017, Atrium of the main building of the TUM, before the beginning of the TUM Speaker Series "Shaping global development – Innovative Concepts with Africa" with Bill Gates, Co-Chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Dr. Gerd Müller, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development. The "aCar" has been developed by TUM with partners in industry and research specifically for rural regions of Africa. It has an electric motor that uses solar energy, made of materials that are available in Africa and can be produced at low cost. Its basic version can be supplemented with various superstructures so that it can also be used as a heavy goods vehicle. With these characteristics, the "aCar" makes low-earning people mobile in remote regions of Africa, enabling them to have better access to health care, education and the economy.
