The relevance of a reliable and accurate determination of the particle number in engine exhaust steadily increases due to the expansion of particle number limits from light-duty diesel- over heavy-duty diesel- through to light-duty gasoline-diesel engines, but also as a reference for a future mobile determination of the particle number. At the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines of the Technische Universität München, a comparison of four parallel-operated partial flow dilution- and particle counting systems for particle number determination on a heavy-duty engine was conducted as part of a FVV project.
