This thesis aims to assess and add to the basic ecological and social-ecological knowledge within urban ecosystems. Human attitudes strongly influence the ecology of cities, and this in turn influences how people that live in cities perceive nature in cities. I addressed basic questions relating to animal biodiversity in German cities and attitudes towards the animals that are present in them. These questions relate to the apparent paucity of information on these topics in Germany, and research towards urban nature as a whole.     «

Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, das ökologische und sozial-ökologische Grundwissen über städtische Ökosysteme zu bewerten und zu ergänzen. Menschliche Einstellungen haben einen großen Einfluss auf die Ökologie von Städten, und dies wiederum beeinflusst, wie Menschen, die in Städten leben, die Natur in Städten wahrnehmen. Ich habe mich mit grundlegenden Fragen zur Artenvielfalt von Tieren in deutschen Städten und der Einstellung zu den dort lebenden Tieren beschäftigt. Diese Fragen beziehen sich auf den offensichtlichen Mangel an Informationen zu diesen Themen in Deutschland und auf die Forschung zur Stadtnatur insgesamt.     «
