The project aimed to investigate the evolution of B-GATAs in plants by performing phylogenetic analyses and generating gata mutants in M. polymorpha, P. patens, and A. thaliana. The research identified the acquisition of the HAN-domain during terrestrialization and revealed novel phenotypes for B-GATAs from A. thaliana in stem stability. The study also indicated the involvement of B-GATAs from P. patens in protonema formation and the protective role of B-GATAs from M. polymorpha and A. thaliana in high-light stress, suggesting evolutionary conservation.
