The aim of this paper is to present a methodology for the objective characterization of the driving behavior of automated vehicles. By determining the driving behavior, it is possible to adapt future test cases specifically to the capabilities of the system to be tested and thus to identify particularly informative, challenging and therefore potentially critical scenarios. These are of major importance because the safety validation of automated vehicles by using field tests only is no longer economically feasible. Initial results show that the number of relevant scenarios for the evaluation of automated vehiclescanbesignificantlyreducedwiththedevelopedmethod, which contributes to overcome this dilemma.      «
