The present study addresses the relevance and the impact of Fusarium head blight on barley, which is caused by a complex of different Fusarium species. The fungal disease primarily interferes with grain processing, but has so far hardly been studied systematically. Monitoring studies as well as field and greenhouse trials, including natural and artificial infection, and subsequent malting and brewing experiments generated new insights into Fusarium occurrence, symptomatology, epidemiology, damage potential, and control.
