Abstract:
This thesis presents efficient computational techniques for optimizing transportation systems split into four steps: 1) an analysis step, which identifies sensitive locations in the road network used as strategic steering tools; 2) a planning step, which involves applying hypothetical changes at problematic locations; 3) a routing control step, executed by state of the art system optimum computation algorithm; and 4) a surveillance step, solving the optimal sensor placement problem, ensuring robustness against long term traffic demand variations.
