The subject of this thesis is the development of an assistance system for open liver surgery. Thus, the surgeon will be supported by navigated instruments during an intervention. A CT based planning model, an intraoperative ultrasound system as well as an optical position measurement system are used. The system allows the registration between the planning model and ultrasound images. An important goal of this work was the usability of the system in all day clinical application. In order to take into account the requirements of liver surgery, an easy and intuitive interaction scheme was realized. This involves the navigated instruments, by which measurement of the resection area was achieved, too. All interaction steps can be performed directly by the surgeon within a few minutes.
