Within the frame of this work a new measuring concept for the medical movement detection was developed, realized prototypically and evaluated medically. The movement detection is implemented with sensors integrated into the garment. The data of the sensors are read and analyzed with a measurement electronics which is integrated into the system as well. At the same time, the measuring textile with the integrated sensors and the encapsulation with the washing machine are washable. The main focus of the construction depended on the user-friendliness, functionality and suitability of daily use. The components were chosen in a way so that the measuring textile could be offered at an affordable price. The measuring textile can detect movements of the hands, legs, fingers and the torso individually, process them, save them on the integrated SD-card and pass them on to a basis station through a wireless, save communication line. For this purpose, communication protocols have been defined. For the further processing and portrayal of the data, indication concepts have been suggested and realized. For the indication over the PC, a reception system has been developed. If the reception system is connected with the PC, data can be received, processed and presented wirelessly on the PC. It was presented on the TV at home as well. A module was constructed which portrays the data on TV. The module is connected with the TV over the SCART-connection, can receive information by the measurement textile wirelessly and portray them onto the current TV program in an overlapped way.
For the reporting of conditions viewed as critical, e.g. if the measurement textile detects a fall, a SMS module was developed and constructed. The module can communicate wirelessly with the measurement textile. If a critical situation is detected, the module sends an SMS message to the responsible staff and reports it. Five areas of application with distinctive movement features have been selected.
• Tremor of patients affected by Parkinson
• Freezing of Gaits of parkinson patients
• restless legs syndrome
• rehabilitation (detection of selected sporting activity)
• fall detection
For these areas of application, usages for the automated detection of the respective problem were developed and implemented into the measurement textile. Altogether 10 measurement shirts, 3 measurement pants and a measurement gloves were installed.
The measurement textiles were at first tested successfully in terms of their accuracy to measure movements of the body and in terms of their accuracy in comparison to alternatively tight-fitting sensors fixed on the body.
The algorithms developed and implemented for the selected medical problems were subsequently evaluated on patients and healthy test persons in several experiments. In doing so, the user-friendliness and the suitability of the measurement system for daily use were examined in addition to the accurate detection of the respective problems.
