Today's multi-physics simulations suffer from a lack of either flexibility or scalability. Only reconciling both will allow for translating the higher compute power of the forthcoming exa-scale era into more resolved physical effects. The coupling library preCICE enables the flexible black-box coupling of legacy codes. This thesis introduces parallelization on two levels into preCICE without compromising its flexibility: parallelization on an intra-solver level by avoiding central coupling instances and parallelization on an inter-solver level by novel parallel quasi-Newton coupling schemes. Both concepts allow for a high scalability of complete multi-physics setups, which is shown for exemplary applications in hemodynamics and aeroelasticity.
