Abstract:
Implicit solvation approaches have become a standard means for modeling chemical reactions in electrolytes. In this thesis, we develop a finite ion size and Stern layer modified Poisson-Boltzmann (SMPB) model suitable for full-potential density functional theory calculations. The SMPB approach accounts not only for solvation effects, but notably also models the influence of dissolved ions. Particular focus lies on the solution of the non-linear partial differential SMPB equation and the derivation of a transferable ionic parameter set.
