The logistics sector is experiencing a transformative era characterized by an unprecedented increase in demand, a paradigm shift in customer service expectations, and a pressing need for sustainable operations. This thesis aims to provide the tools and algorithms necessary to address complex optimization challenges raised in this transformed setting. Specifically, the thesis tackles a charge scheduling problem arising in last-mile delivery, develops methodology to deal with the uncertainty of on-demand delivery, and provides tooling that supports the development of problem-specific vehicle routing algorithms.
