The staggered phase field formulation has proved to be a robust formulation for the modeling of crack nucleation and propagation, but it suffers from a very slow convergence rate. Here, we summarize some of the methods that were proposed in the literature to accelerate staggered schemes and numerically investigate their performances in staggered hybrid quasi-static phase field modeling. Between the studied methods, we found that Anderson’s method was the most robust in terms of the mean number of iterations that were required for convergence and the stability of the solution.
