Precision stamping presses are triple-acting special machines which have to be adapted to the characteristics of high-precision cutting. In order to attain high stroke rates in spite of the relatively low precision stamping speeds, the drive systems are designed so that the no-load return strokes are accomplished in minimal time. High-speed presses with mechanical ram drive are used for the punching of small components. Larger stampings require hydraulic presses in which the accumulator drive has proved to be particularly effective.
