Traffic based evaluations of driver assistance systems
have been performed in many research works. Highly
automated driving is realized by a combination of lateral and
longitudinal advanced driving assistance systems. Notably no
attempt has been performed to evaluate this combination. This
work introduces a novel approach to evaluate the impacts of
highly automated driving in a microscopic traffic simulation
environment. Furthermore, the impacts of this new technology
are presented regarding the safety aspects.
