This dissertation presents the iterative and user-centered studies for two-handed user interfaces on
ruggedized tablet devices intended to be used in Mass Casualty Incidents by the Emergency Medical
Chief. Those studies were conducted in the field of mobile map applications and mobile text input. To
ensure that the requirements of the target group, the emergency service, are met, the staff of the Fire
Department TUM, the Arbeiter-Samariter Bund, and the Rescue Service of Stralsund were part of the
development procedure.
