In the course of future trends in the automotive industry towards autonomous driving, an exact detection of the vehicle’s position becomes a fundamental technology for various automotive systems. In reaction to the emerging requirements for navigation and driver assistance systems, the determination of a lane-precise vehicle position becomes more and more important. Within this work, the detection of the current lane as well as the actual number of lanes is investigated by processing state-of-the-art sensor-data. Therefore, the vehicle’s environment is detected by the sensors, interpreted and adjusted to map data. The efficiency of the algorithms is tested on different street classes, traffic situations as well as weather conditions.
