There are a variety of different approaches to the modelling of material behavior in sheet metal forming, and the complexity of these models varies greatly. It is not easy to estimate a priori to what extent a selected model will fulfil the accuracy requirements considering the expected boundary conditions. Thus, an essential step before using material models is the validation thereof. So far, a variety of experiments are being used for the validation of material models, but all of them have advantages and disadvantages. This paper presents an innovative validation tool for several strain conditions that combines advantages that are important in a validation tool: simple test conduct, small number of tests, low friction influence, complex strain distribution, and a continuous collection of data over time. In addition to the presentation of the tool, this paper provides a comparison between experiments and numerical analyses. The results will show that the material model has a predominant influence on the numerical analysis of the experiments. As a result, the tool represents an effective instrument for the evaluation of existing material models. In addition, this paper pre-sents new capabilities for calibrating a material model on the basis of the data generated using the innovative tool.     «
