In this study we investigated the use of cryopreserved multilayered human amnion membrane as a grafting material for the closure of oronasal fistula in a minipig model. With seven Minipigs respectively a mid-palate oronasal fistulae was created. After two weeks epithelialized, oronasal relations in all seven animals had developed. In a second operation the palatal defects were repaired. Each three randomly selected animals received human amnion membrane as a grafting material and the other three animals were provided with Integra® (Integra Life Sciences, Plainsboro, NJ, USA). One animal served as control object. After sacrification of the animals the surgical sides, which had been harvested, were evaluated by clinical, histological and immunhistological methods. There was a significant reduction of fistulae diameter covered with HAM compared to fistulae covered with Integra (p=0,4).
