A randomised prospective study in 2001 included 60 patients with GSV insufficency, 20 patients with invagination stripping, cryotherapy or endoluminal radiofrequency obliteration (RA). The postoperative assessement after 24 hours, 1, 2 and 6 weeks included ultrasound examination, quality of life assessment (CICIQ 2 Qol questionnaire), pain measurements (VAS) and return to work or daily activity. Qol score (p=0,012), pain measurement (p=0,014) and return to daily activity (p=0,021) showed best results in the RA group. RA offers significant short-term, patient-oriented advantages over extended ligation and invagination or cryostripping.
