Within a multistudy, segments (25mm) from the tibiae of 24 mongrel dogs were resected; extracorporal gamma-irridiation (5kGy) was performed in 12 segments, 12 were autoclaved (3min 134°C). Reimplantation was performed with intramedullary nailing in half of the dogs, in the other half with plate osteosynthesis. During the 36 weeks of observation there were clinical, radiological and szintigraphical controls at fixed times. Postmortal, the bones were biomechanically tested. This study investigates the results of the two groups with plate osteosynthesis. According to the evaluation, extracorporal irridiated and autoclaved autogenuous bonegrafts may heal, in this study irridiated grafts are superior to autoclaved ones.
