Filamentous fungi secrete enzymes required for the deconstruction of lignocellulose, whose natural break is carbon catabolite repression (CCR). Proteins involved in CCR can be regulated by targeted degradation, wherein F-box proteins are involved. Within this work, N. crassa F-box proteins were identified through database search and mutants were assayed for CCR phenotypes. Transcriptional profiling was conducted and through immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry potential interactors were identified. Collectively, the results allowed a better understanding of the function of F-Box proteins during carbohydrate utilization in N. crassa.
