KAI1 has been described as a tumor suppressor in different solid tumors. In this study, we focused on biological effects of its splice variant, KAI1-splice, on integrin alphavbeta3/vitronectin-mediated adhesion and proliferation of human ovarian cancer cells. In in vitro cell adhesion assays, expression of KAI1-splice - in contrast to KAI1 - reduced integrin alphavbeta3/vitronectin-mediated cell adhesion. Furthermore, cellular presence of KAI1-splice enhanced human ovarian cancer cell proliferative activity.
