In epithelial ovarian cancer, tumor-associated biomarkers useful for diagnosis, prognosis, and/or therapy response prediction are in short supply. Previous studies suggested an upregulation of kallikrein-related peptidase 7 (KLK7) in advanced stage ovarian cancer patients. Multiple experiments were carried out to obtain an immunohistochemical standard operating procedure with high specificity and sensitivity for determination of KLK7. Eight different antibodies raised against KLK7 needed to be validated. Employing the highly specific antibodies by using an optimized immunohistochemical staining protocol, KLK7 protein expression in various normal organs and ovarian cancer tissues was evaluated.
