The present study compared, as an interim analysis of the ANAHUM study, an intensified conventional insulin therapy (ICT) consisting of insulin analogues with ICT human insulin for 63 people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It demonstrated that the postprandial blood glucose test and the diastolic cardiac function, defined as the myocardial velocity through pulsed Doppler tissue, were only significantly improved under analogue insulin therapy. In consideration of the diastolic dysfunction's adverse prevalence and prognostic significance for patients with type 2 diabetes, this correlation should be accounted for in the choice of insulin preparations for these patients.
