Three different psychoeducational interventions (professional-, peer-, and
video-led) were compared with each other and a control group in this
randomized, controlled, multi-center study. 412 patients suffering from
schizophrenia were included. After the interventions all three groups showed
an improvement of knowledge of illness and of medication attitudes as
assessed by the Horne Scale, the Drug Attitude Inventory-10 and the
Medication Adherence Rating Scale. Most improvement was shown in the groups
conducted by professionals. However, the less expensive interventions (peer-
and video-led groups), were shown to be useful alternatives to the costly
professional-led groups in daily clinical routine.
