The objective of the present study was to consider the long term outcome of dental implants after preceding bone augmentation. Sinus grafting, onlay-grafting with autogenous bone and vertical distraction osteogenesis of the alveolar process were included. Clinical and radiological data were evaluated as well as the patient-centered outcome. According to defined criteria the included bone augmentation techniques were compared with regard to implant survival, implant success and morbidity. The results were discussed on the base of current literature, additionally. The implant survival rate according to Kaplan-Meier was 70.0-100%. The implant success rate according to Albrektson’s criteria was 55.3-100%. Unsatisfying esthetic outcome and unfulfilled expectations were factors for malcontent patients.
