The development of new synthetic methods was based on intermolecular reactions with aryldiazonium cations, which were used as precursors for radicals and as radical scavengers. Aryl- and alkyl-carbodiazenylation, allylation, vinylation, and fluoroarylation are the new investigated Meerwein-type reactions. All these methods are application-oriented and simple, no inert atmosphere or dry conditions are needed, on the contrary water facilitates the reactions. Short reaction times enable the synthesis of complex [18F]fluorinated molecules, which can be used for positron emission tomography (PET).
