This PhD-Thesis is about interactions between cement admixtures. Using cementitious self levelling mortars as a model system, the influence of the retarders citrate and tartrate on the adsorption behaviour of polycarboxylate-based superplasticiers was investigated. Furthermore casein, a biopolymer, which is often used in self levelling mortars, was separated into its single protein-fractions by using FPLC-chromatography. It turned out that alpha- casein is responsible for the excellent plasticizing effect of casein. Beta-casein has only a small and kappa-casein no plasticizing effect. There is a correlation between the plasticizing effect of the different casein fractions and their anionic charge, their zeta-potential and adsorption behaviour.
