The course of the disease of 90 patients suffering from ovarian cancer at FIGO stage I, who had received primary treatment at the Frauenklink des Klinikums rechts der Isar der Technischen Universität München between 1982 and 1999, was evaluated in a retrospective study. Based on the data collected, the patients' survival rate, the operative staging as well as the recurrence rate were analysed with regard to the impact of post-operative therapy as well as with regard to established clinical parameters and tumour-biological factors, in order to ascertain the validity of various prognostic factors and of post-operative treatment. The 5-year-survival rate was 90 %. Important findings were, among others, a statistically significant impact of the extent of surgery, the uPA level of the tumour tissue and the ploidy of tumour cells on the recurrence-free survival period.
