Digital platforms provide access to a broad variety of information and improve its exchange. However, they also generate new forms of fakery, including fake news, accounts, reviews, or ads. With fakery being a major concern in information systems research, this dissertation provides an overarching understanding from a literature review and empirically investigates the effect of two platform interventions around fakery on Twitter and YouTube. This informs platform providers, users, and policymakers.
