Downwash of helicopters and tiltrotor aircraft in flight close to terrain poses significant dangers. The complex flow phenomena cannot be implemented in flight training simulators in an adequate manner yet. This thesis presents the development of a novel real-time capable downwash simulation model. The model is able to capture complex boundary conditions and incorporate their effects in its flow field calculation at simulation runtime. It is shown that the model’s calculation results are in good agreement with reference simulations and flight test data.
