In a contact analog head-up display (cHUD), information can be presented in an augmented reality way, directly superimposed on the driving environment. This advancement of the conventional head-up display (HUD) is supposed to reduce the driver’s mental interpretation effort and enhance driving safety and comfort. However, technical limitations and the characteristics of the human information processing system and road traffic can impair the contact analog presentation of information. As part of this dissertation, four series of experiments were carried out in order to examine how a display concept for a cHUD should be designed against this background.
