Abstract:
This thesis introduces an ADER Discontinuous Galerkin discretization for fully coupled elastic-acoustic earthquake simulations, including dynamic earthquake rupture, wave propagation in elastic and acoustic media, and tsunami propagation. I apply the model to the Palu, Sulawesi, 2018 earthquake and tsunami, and to an earthquake induced by an Enhanced Geothermal System in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The implementation achieved petascale performance on multiple supercomputers.
