Abstract:
This thesis delves into the genetics of multimorbidity using large genomic datasets, focusing on the comorbidities between type 2 diabetes and osteoarthritis, as well as type 2 diabetes and schizophrenia. Through genome-wide and regional analyses including causal inference and colocalization analysis, shared risk signals and putative effector genes influencing both diseases simultaneously were identified. The research suggests potential therapeutic targets and drug repurposing opportunities.

Die Dissertation erforscht die Genetik der Multimorbidität unter Verwendung großer genomischer Datensätze, insbesondere die Komorbiditäten zwischen Typ-2-Diabetes und Osteoarthritis sowie Typ-2-Diabetes und Schizophrenie. Durch verschiedene Analysen wurden gemeinsame Risikosignale und Effektorgene identifiziert. Diese Erkenntnisse bieten Potenzial für neue therapeutische Ansätze und die Wiederverwendung von Medikamenten.
