In order to analyse the accuracy of hen-to-egg assignment in the Weihenstephan funnel nest box, 458 DNA samples obtained from hens and 335 DNA samples from embryos, were genotyped with 249 SNPs. After verifying DNA and SNP quality, 310 embryos were checked for their correct assignment to the hen using 248 SNPs. With the aid of the ‘Mendelian’ error analysis, 99.7 % of the data-based assignments could be confirmed. This result is supported by comprehensive data analysis as well as heritability estimations of egg-quality traits.
