This research work aimed to study the cross-linking mechanism of guar gum and its derivative hydroxypropyl guar with zirconium and titanium complexes. For this purpose metal complexes as well as metal oxide nanoparticles (SiO2, SnO2, TiO2 and ZrO2) with a size of 2 – 15 nm were synthesized and investigated by methods such as isothermal titration calorimetry regarding their interaction with the polysaccharides. Additionally, a new phosphate-modified fluid loss additive based on 2-acrylamido-2-tert.-butyl sulfonic acid and N,N-dimethyl acrylamide was synthesized and characterized regarding its working mechanism. In the last part of this thesis, the interaction between non-ionic cellulose ethers as another class of cement fluid loss additive with cement was scrutinized.
