Discovery of novel materials with specific functions and development of enhanced fabrication processes are the key challenges facing nanotechnological research. Herein, fundamental understanding from the bottom-up design of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) towards the exploiting of the enhanced liquid-phase epitaxial procedure for integration MOFs into devices has been thoroughly examined. Not only controlling at the molecular assembly level, hierarchical structuring of MOFs at the mesoscopic scale also reveals the emerged functions for the next-generation devices.
