The reconstruction of the eyelids and orbital socket for the insertion of a prosthesis following trauma or tumors which lead to loss of the eye and orbital tissue, represents a significant clinical problem. Most importantly, the retraction of the internal lining of the eyelids and cavity could lead to an inadequate position of the orbital prosthesis or a poor aesthetic outcome. The current sudy consists of the elaboration and testing of eyelid and orbital socket reconstruction using preformed flaps in an experimental model in rabbits. Up to date, the experimental and clinical results with this technique give us the hope of obtaining enormous improvement, both functionally and aesthetically.
