This thesis examines the paediatric work of Benjamin as a part of Paediatrics in the early 20th century, furthermore it allows an insight into a typical Jewish-German fate in the first half of the 20th century. As a result the investigation of Benjamins publications allowed to get an extensive overall view about his professional developement, among other things as scientist and paediatrician at the Paediatric Clinic at the University of Munich and as therapeutic pedagogue at the childrens sanatorium in Zell-Ebenhausen, which he established himself. The recollections of descendants and contemporaries as well as rare contemporary sources show the private background of this professional career and supply evidence for the increasing problems a Jewish doctor had to face in Nazi Germany. For the first time in the appendix of this thesis there is published a comprehensive bibliography of Benjamins publications.
