Diverticulitis of the colon and its complications are among the most frequent deseases in western industrial nations. The following study analized in which amount recommended international guidelines in diagnostics and therapy were applied in a General Hospital. In most cases diagnostics and treatment followed international recommendations. Early-elective resection with primary anastomosis was first choice in operative treatment of uncomplicated and even complicated diverticulitis. In our study we found evidence that the indication for early-elective resection could be performed even more frequent than suggested. Length of postoperative clinical treatment and use of computed tomography as gold standard were also found discussionable.
