In 14 menisci of 7 fresh cadaveric human knees the width of an arthroscopically created lesion was measured before and after arthroscopic suturing on MRI scans in different angles of flexion of the knee. In both cases there was no widening of the gap neighter in full flexion nor in full extension. Therefore no postoperative restriction of motion seems necessary for patients undergoing arthroscopic meniscal repair by suturing. The data retained from the retrospective questioning of patients who underwent meniscal surgery (n = 72, follow up 11 - 115 months)suppoerts this thesis. Patients who were allowed unlimited motion postoperative report better results than those with restricted motion.
