The aim of this study was to analyse the impact of IMT-SPECT in comparison with MRI for radiation treatment planning in 121 patients with brain gliomas. The development of IMT-uptake during radiotherapy was quantified. Furthermore, prognostic value of age, tumor histology, resection status, Karnofski-index and level of IMT-uptake in resected patients were analysed. Tumor volume, planning target volume and boost volume, defined on IMT-SPECT/MRI fusion images were compared with tumor volume, planning target volume and boost volume, defined on MRI alone. It was quantified, in which way IMT-SPECT changed TV and BV. Furthermore, in 76 resected patients IMT-ratio was defined and correlated with survival time. Both, in nonresected and resected patients, IMT-SPECT significantly influenced boost volume, while target volume was changed minimally. Besides, IMT-ratio decreased significantly during radiotherapie. Furthermore, age, resection status, histology, Karnofski-index and level of IMT-uptake were correlated significantly with survival time.
